Cooperation is synergy, mutual support, and working
together as a group to achieve a common goal. It also means being willing to
compromise and set aside personal needs to help others.
When you cooperate with someone, you are willing to
work with them rather than against them, and you are also willing to make
sacrifices for the greater good. For example, you might choose to work on a
project for a colleague who asked for your help instead of going out for drinks
with friends and loitering in the streets. You might also participate in your
local community in solving a problem without resorting to violence or force.
Cooperation in Islam has many benefits, including exchanging experiences among
members of society in various aspects of life; fostering unity among members of
society, which increases its cohesion, strength, and prosperity; contributing
to the completion of large projects in a short time, thus saving effort and
money; helping to prevent the spread of injustice; purifying hearts and
cleansing them of the corruption of grudges and hatred towards others;
elevating the nation and raising its banner high among nations; and gaining the
love of God and His Messenger.
Cooperation is either cooperation in righteousness and
piety, which includes cooperation and assistance in all that is good and
righteous, or cooperation in sin and transgression, which includes all that is
evil and corrupt. Cooperation in righteousness and piety is a religious
obligation that Islamic law encourages and commands. Examples include
supporting the oppressed, relieving the distress of the weak, providing for the
poor and needy, and easing the burdens of those in difficulty, among other
things. Cooperation in sin and transgression, however, is forbidden by Islamic
law. Both types are... This cooperation is included in the words of God.
Almighty: “O you who have believed, do not violate the rites of God or [the
sanctity of] the sacred month or [the offering of] the sacrificial animals or
[the wearing of] the garlands [on them] or [the rights of] those coming to the
Sacred House seeking bounty from their Lord and [His] approval. But when you are
free from the restrictions of pilgrimage, then hunt. And let not hatred of a
people cause you to commit adultery. ” O you who believe! Violate not the
sanctity of the symbols of Allah, nor of the sacred month, nor of the animals
brought for sacrifice, nor of the garlanded people or animals, etc. [Marked by
the garlands on their necks made from the outer part of the tree stems (of
Makkah) for their security], nor the people coming to the Sacred House
(Makkah), seeking the bounty and good pleasure of their Lord. But when you
finish the Ihram (of Hajj or 'Umrah), you may hunt, and let not the hatred of
some people in (once) stopping you from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) lead you
to transgression (and hostility on your part). Help one another in Al-Birr and
At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness, and piety), but do not help one another in sin
and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment"
(Surat Al-Ma'idah: 2); and His saying: "And hold fast, all of you
together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e., this Quran), and be not divided among
yourselves, and remember Allah's favor on you, for you were enemies one to
another, but He joined your hearts together so that, by His grace, you became
brethren (in Islamic faith), and you were on the brink of a pit of fire, and He
saved you from it. Thus Allah makes His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses,
lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to you, that you may be guided. "
(Quran 3:103). Another example of this cooperation is Moses' request to God
Almighty to send Aaron with him to assist him in his call to Pharaoh to send
the Children of Israel with them, as God Almighty says, "And my brother
Harun (Aaron), he is more eloquent in speech than me, so send him with me as a
helper to confirm me. Verily! I fear that they will belie me." (Surat
Al-Qasas: 34).
And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be
upon him) taught us the ways of cooperating in righteousness and piety in his
saying, “Whoever relieves a believer of a hardship from the hardships of this
world, Allah will relieve him of a hardship from the hardships of the Day of
Resurrection. And whoever makes things easy for someone in difficulty, Allah
will make things easy for him in this world.” And the Hereafter, and whoever
conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world
and the Hereafter. And Allah is ever helping the servant as long as the servant
is helping his brother. And whoever takes a path seeking knowledge, Allah will
make easy for him a path to Paradise. And no people gather in one of the houses
of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah. And they study it amongst themselves,
except that tranquility descends upon them, and mercy envelops them, and the
angels surround them, and God mentions them to those with Him. And whoever is
slowed down by his deeds will not be hastened by his lineage.” (Narrated by Abu
Hurairah; Source: Sahih Muslim).
